What is a Ceramic Coating?

A ceramic coating is a highly durable protective barrier that is applied to your car’s exterior. It goes on as a liquid, then dries and hardens into a semi-permanent layer of protection.

How long does a Ceramic Coating last?

A true professional-grade ceramic coating should last a minimum of 3 years. It’s important to understand that the longevity of the coating is directly related to how it’s cared for after installation.

Our ceramic coatings last an average of 3 years. If improperly cared for, you may see the coating start to fade within 1-2 years. However, if you take good care of it well, you should expect to get 5+ years out of it. Ceramic coating longevity is all about proper maintenance.

What does the installation process look like?

In this section, we’ll walk you through our install process for ceramic coatings.

First, we wash and detail the exterior

Your car will get a hand wash, clay bar decontamination, and paint enhancement. These steps are essential in the ceramic coating process. The cleaner your exterior is, the better the coating will bond to the surface and the longer it will last.

Paint enhancement is our polishing service. This is where we deep clean your paint, glass and other exterior surfaces with a random orbital polisher. This process will also remove light imperfections in the paint (such as very light scratches, some swirl marks, etc.)

Then we prepare your paint

Your car will get a wipe down with a special paint preparation spray, cleansing it even further and ensuring a perfectly clean surface.

Finally, we apply the ceramic coating

A team of 2 pro detailers will apply the coating to all exterior surfaces (paint, trim, windows, mirrors). The coating will be applied as a liquid, then allowed to cure for a period of 2 hours. After that, your car is ready to be picked up!

The coating will continue to fully cure for 7 days after application. Please do not wash your vehicle during this time and try to avoid water if you can.

Frequently Asked Questions – Ceramic Coatings

A wax does a similar job to a ceramic coatings, however the durability and quality cannot be compared. Waxes will generally last about 3 months whereas the ceramic coating will last a minimum of 3 years. Also, a ceramic coating does a much better job at actually protecting your vehicle against the elements, whereas a wax basically just makes your car look shiny.

Our install process takes a minimum of 6 hours. You can expect to leave your car with us for 1-2 days. We will provide more accurate service duration when you request a quote.

We do not install ceramic coatings from our mobile detailing unit. You must bring your car into our shop, located in Historic Downtown Mansfield.

Wash your car at least once per month with a good rinseless car wash. Ideally, park your car in a garage whenever possible. Apply a ceramic sealant as a topper every once in a while (twice a year should be fine). We will give you more care instructions after you get your coating installed.

A ceramic sealant is typically a spray-on ceramic product. This means they are very easy to apply but do not bond as well to surfaces. You can expect ceramic sealants to last anywhere from 4-8 months, whereas a ceramic coating will last years.

No, ceramic coatings are not designed to prevent rock chips, deep scratches, etc.

The coating will provide some level of scratch resistance, but this shouldn’t be considered a primary benefit of ceramic coatings. Light scratches and swirl marks will be absorbed by the ceramic coating, protecting your paint underneath. But you will still be able to see these scratches regardless if they cut through the ceramic or not.

Nope! You can absolutely wash it yourself and we do not apply any “toppers” or additional layers after the coating is done. We will provide you with education and resources to properly wash the vehicle yourself.
